If you go to Dhulikhel, you should visit the Thousand steps temple (or Sadhu Shiva temple). At the top, Raminababa will surely give you a good welcome, show you the temple and point the surrounding villages.
Raminababa is a sadhu, a holy man from buddhism, retired from the society to devote his life to aim the liberation of his individual soul. Sadhus live with almost no possessions and try to have no impact on their environnement.
Raminababa might first looks like all those guides who wanted you to hired them in exchange of some money. That’s what I thought myself before realizing my mistake and understand he was sincere. He will surely ask you a little contribution but you will be free to give him whatever you want. You have to know sadhus only live from generosity of others. Even after you will give him some money, Raminababa will still keep his enthusiasm.
He is really a curious man. If like me you are a photographer, he will probably ask you to see the pictures you have just taken. In exchange he might show you some drawings he is doing himself. They represent nature, some mythological themes or some events that happened in this area. If you want to please him, Raminababa is collecting foreigner currencies. I have myself given him few dollars I had from at Kathmandu customs.
